Mindset is a combination of the words, thoughts and beliefs you think in the privacy of your own mind on a daily basis.
The reason mindset is so important is that it shapes your choices, and your choices create your actions and results.
When you think about mindset and growing your career, it’s difficult to achieve your goals without understanding and learning how to focus and harness your thoughts in a specific way.
What Is The Biggest Misperception Women Have About What A Mindset Is?
#1 – Mindset Is Something You Practice When You’re Negative
Mindset is a way of training and focusing your thoughts so that you are productive, clear and looking for solutions and in momentum. The belief that mindset is practiced only if you’re a negative person is absolutely not true, in fact, the most successful women and men use mindset training daily to support their thoughts and achieve their goals.
Of interest, mindset is not taught within schools yet it is the single most predominant factor that shapes your choices, decisions and actions.
10 years ago I worked with CFL players, Olympians, high performing athletes. I took them through the mindset training we now teach on the Wealthy Woman Warrior™ training centre. Did you know that athletes practice 97% more than they play their sport?
When you think about this, some of the most important practicing they do is visualizing the specific details of the sport they play. Athletes practice that every day before they wake up and before they fall asleep they’re practicing in their mind.
The same strategy can be applied for women who want to grow their careers. The words you use, the thoughts you have, the beliefs you hold, if you practice honing in on those 15 minutes a day, you’ll grow your confidence, increase your propensity for creating solutions, and ultimately change what’s happening in your career.
If you treat your career as if it is your sport, practicing simply with mindset tools for a short span of time – your thoughts, brain and even your DNA will rearrange itself into position so that advancement is possible.
Your Mindset Affects Everything From Your Hormones Down To Your DNA.
What many women aren’t aware of is that when you are intentional with your words, thoughts and beliefs your brain’s pathways change and so does your DNA. What’s been revealed and tested relentlessly by Russian biophysicist and molecular biologist Pjtor Garjajev and his team, over the past decade is how your words, what you think and your daily rituals … SHOCKINGLY IMPACT your DNA and your career growth.
Most women have learned to train their bodies, but the vast majority of women have not learned how to train their minds. I’m not talking about meditation here either, I’m speaking about training the basic words and thoughts you have in the privacy of your mind.
The vast majority of women are unaware that their private thoughts are preventing their professional advancement simply because they are focusing on aspects that keep them from the very actions that they need to be doing.
Have you ever noticed that if you let your focus zero in on what you’re really thinking about, you’ll likely notice that your attention is playing the same thought on repeat. It’s likely something to do with not being able to get all of the items on your to do list complete.
Think about it, you’re lying in bed falling asleep and you’re reviewing the long ‘to-do list’, worrying about money, or trying to figure out how to juggle your personal and professional life that seems to conflict more than ever. In the morning, what happens? Likely, you repeat the same thoughts over again.
When you change the words you use and focus on the results you want you can actually influence your brain pathways.
It’s exactly like solving a jigsaw puzzle or uploading a new operating system to your smart phone, when you think and use the right words, your ability to focus on what is actually needed to achieve your goals changes.
Learning the words and thoughts that will help you get unstuck is the first step to gaining self-confidence, inner power, and perseverance so your professional goals become ignited.
What Happens When You Don’t Leverage What A Mindset Is?
Have you ever noticed that when you’re worrying about something you feel tired and drained? One of the reasons for this is because worry, doubt and fear take up more energy in your physiological body.
What most women don’t understand is that negative words and thoughts actually rob energy from your body.
I call these Power Crushing Words. An example of a power crushing word is: Busy.
How many women use that word everyday. I’m so busy.
In old english, the word busy stems from anxiety, anger and painful constriction. Using that word, in the context of describing your day releases neurotransmitters and hormones that align with those emotions.
So when you look at the context of most women trying to advance their professional positions, what we’ve learned to do and it’s been modeled for us, is women have learned to use words to describe situations rather than change situations. Think about that, if you started to use your mindset and express yourself so that you had more energy and internal power for change how would that help you achieve your goals faster and more easily?
When you’re not aware of what a mindset is or how your thoughts affect your energy, you can feel out of control. By simply changing your words, refocusing your thinking and directing your attention to what you want, you’ll recalibrate the actions you take.
This is critical for women to understand so that they can grow their careers and reach their professional potential, not to mention retain energy. So many women think, I’m so busy, I don’t have the time to __________ that’s when they’ll release the hormones and neurotransmitters that their body is tired and over-worked.
But if we start changing the conversation and the words we use, focusing the energy we have on the activities that will help you achieve your goals then you’ll begin to make the time and take the action to complete what you need.
The flip side of Power Crushing Words are Power Cultivating Words.
Power cultivating words are words that you can use throughout your day to give you more energy and help you change the situation that you’re in.
When you use these words, either in your own mind or out loud, your brain releases hormones and neurotransmitters that fuel you.
Use ‘Power Cultivator’ words to change your situation, not describe it.
First, the next time anyone asks, “How are you?” whether it’s someone at work or a cashier at the store, regardless of how your day started out, respond with strength. Give them an energetic and enthusiastic,
“Great!” or “Terrific!” “Amazing!” “Awesome!”
Using words like these to enhance your situation creates a physical response from your mind to your body. These words engage the positive emotional centres in your brain, creating a surge of energy in yourself and your environment.
By doing this, your mind acts on what you are saying and designs your experience to be consistent with your thoughts and words. This activates your ‘Success DNA’ and opens the door for career growth.
Some women can be challenged with this at first because they think it can seem ‘inauthentic’.
This is where you begin to shift obstacles into opportunities and gain momentum in your career.
